Green Chemistry and Commerce Council Challenge: Developing New Preservatives for Products

Due Date: 08/24/2017

The Green Chemistry & Commerce Council (GC3), a cross-sectoral network promoting green chemistry in supply chains, has launched a global competition to identify innovators developing preservatives with improved environmental health and safety profiles for use in cosmetics, personal care and household products. There are concerns about the impact of some preservatives on human health, particularly because of their widespread use. Therefore, the challenge organizers desire preservatives with improved environmental health and safety profiles.

The challenge seeks submissions on:

  • Broad spectrum or single action chemical agents on gram-positive bacteria, gram-negative bacteria, yeast, and mold
  • Preservative boosters (optimizers or potentiators)/multi-functional ingredients that have a primary non-preserving function, yet enhance antimicrobial efficacy

This challenge gives people the unique opportunity to gain visibility and receive feedback on their preservatives as well as the potential to partner with the organizers. Finalists will be invited to present their technologies and network with representatives from the challenge organizers.

The challenge will award three to five cash prizes from the $175,000 prize pool, with a minimum single prize award of $25,000. No Intellectual Property transfer or licensing is required to receive an award for this challenge.
