North Central College: Visiting Assistant/Associate Professor of Environmental Studies
The program in Environmental Studies at North Central College invites applications for a three-year visiting position in Environmental Studies at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning Sept. 2017.
Successful candidates should have a PhD in environmental studies or a related field such as political science, geography, or economics with a firm grounding in environmental politics and policies, their economic and social consequences, and the role of citizen activism in shaping local to global environmental policies and sustainability initiatives.
Beginning in fall 2017, the environmental studies program is expanding to offer a major; therefore the exact area of specialization is open, but we are most interested in candidates who can work across traditional disciplinary boundaries to create innovative curriculum within our three areas of emphasis: society and the environment (humanities/social sciences), science and the environment, and sustainability and the environment (business). Expertise in energy policies/systems/resources, sustainability, and/or GIS is a plus.
The appointment will be to the program of environmental studies and the most relevant cognate department. The successful candidate will be expected to work with colleagues throughout the College of Arts and Sciences and the School of Business & Entrepreneurship to develop and teach courses that respond to a broad range of student interests. Applicants must demonstrate commitment to teaching excellence and ongoing scholarship in environmental studies and willingness to mentor student experiential learning through research, internships, and activism.
Founded in 1861, North Central College is a selective comprehensive liberal arts institution of about 3000 students, located 28 miles west of Chicago in Naperville, IL.
